Lilo & Stitch is a Disney cartoon film that was released in 2002. It was directed and written by Chris Sander y Dean DeBlois and produced by Clark Spencer. The main voice actors are Daveigh Chase as Lilo, Christopher M. Sanders as Stitch and Tía Carrere as Nani. This film has two original songs composed by Mark Keali’i Ho’omalu and Alan Silvestri. One of them is "Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride", a famous song that is sang both in english and in hawaiian, performed by Kealiʻi Hoʻomalu and the Kamehameha Schools children's chorus.
The film tells the story of another planet in which a crazy genius alien called Dr Jumba, creates a new creature, an alien he called Experiment 626. Dr Jumba is arrested and put into trial for this illegal genetic experimentation. Experiment 626 is sentenced to exile but somehow manages to escape and crash-lands on the Earth, Hawaii. Dr Jumba is sent to capture it, along with Agent Pleakley, the Council's Earth expert.

Lilo is a solitary kid who lives in Hawaii with her older sister, Nani. Their parents died when she was a baby. She is bullied by her classmates and has no friends. One day, when she was praying to God for an angel to take care of her, what she believed was a star crashed somewhere near them. The “star” was Experiment 626, Stitch. Lilo adopts him as her “dog” and here begins a story about love and family. For us, the main message is the story behind Lilo and Nani. The character of Nani is way underrated in cinema, people barely talk about her when talking about good characters. I’ve also heard people saying that Frozen was the first Disney film that represents love between sisters, and that is not even close to the truth.
Nani is 19 year old young woman that has to raise her sister and work, all by herself. She has a lot of problems as the Social Services want to take Lilo with them, as they think Nani is not responsible enough. She spends all the story trying to get a job (because she has been fired from the previous one), take care of the house and of Lilo, and she still allows her to have Stitch as a pet. She gives her sister all the love and patience she has and tries so hard to act as a mother despite her age. She also doesn’t meet the beauty standards commonly used in Disney films. Nani is a great character and deserves more attention and consideration.
