One of the most iconic animation movies of all times is The Lion King. It was released in 1994 by Disney, but its success had such an impact that, in 1997, they launched a musical theatre that is still played all around the world nowadays and, in 2019, a remake of the film was launched. However, we are going to focus in the first one, which is the most iconic because of its incredible animation and spectacular music among other reasons.

The story is about Simba, the son of the lion king Musaka. He dreams of the moment when it will be his turn to be the king, and even sings a song called “I just can’t wait to be the king” with his best friend Nana. However, the brother of Musaka, Scar, wants all the power for himself, so he makes an evil plan to cause his brother’s death and make Simba believe that it is all his fault. As Scar had planed, moved by his shame and his regrets, Simba runs out of the kingdom and starts a new life.

He goes out of the jungle’s order with Pumba and Timon who live independently under the slogan of “hakuna matata” which means there are no problems, in a sort of bubble world. However, one day Nana arrives by coincidence to their land and finds Simba. She tells him about the situation of his kingdom: Scar is a tyrannical king that is causing the starvation of the jungle. She tries to convince Simba to come back and be the king that he is meant to be. But Simba is not sure to have enough courage to face again his old life and the errors of his past in order to fulfill his destiny. Finally, he is convinced and fights his uncle.

The message of this film is that we have to take responsibility for who we are and that we cannot run away from our identity, our family or our past, despite the fact that we can be tempted to do so and to live in a happy lie.
